Doing nothing on a weekend?….

Why don’t you just buy the pirated DVD version of Little Miss Sunshine. Why? Don’t ask. Just watch it. No further questions.

What the fuck is life anyway?

Pirate Satellite

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

"Ladies and gentlemen, if you are craving the latest in indie/alternative punk-rock music from around the world, then listen every Saturday night 9-11 to home of NU rock NU 107 for Pirate Satellite…"

That is the famous tagline of this Saturday show uttered by an Aussie DJ (whose name is witheld and intends to keep it that way). The show is called Pirate Satellite (which comes from one of The Clash’s single) and is making waves since the first day it was aired. As an avid listener of the program, it is one of the alternative household remedies when late night weekend gigs are not organized or planned. Well, to start with, it is totally boombastic! In an interview published in the January 2007 issue of Manual Magazine, Par Sallan, the creator of the show (who himself was a DJ), highlighted different reasons why Filipinos should listen to it. If you have are tired of the POP bands (I mean, these bands that are so mainstreamed that their songs are repeated over and over, even in MTV or its local counterpart), then this show might just be what you are looking for. Okay, I know you’ve been desperately wanting to know exactly where I am pointing at (and the word desperate comes in, haha! As if!). Be ready to be blown away with interesting indie tunes (mostly are Brit) and tons of trivia! So here goes the list of albums and the artists who could best represent what Pirate Satellite is all about…

1. London Calling-The Clash

2. Oceans Apart- The Go-Betweens

3. The Queen Is Dead- The Smiths

4. Funeral-The Arcade of Fire

5. Stars of CCTV- Hard Fi

6. Black Noise Is The New Sound-Tokyo Sex Destruction

7. S/T-The Specials

8. The New Fellas-The Cribs

9. The Meadowlans-The Wrens

10.Mr Tambourine Man- The Byrds

Extras—–

Well, I remember, I picked "Sunburn" by Sandwich as my #1 song last summer. Ang tagal na pala. This summer, they released the single and even made a video for it …."I just wanna be on the beach, SUNBURN" …Enjoy tanning!

Bloc
Lord, give me grace and dancing feet

And the power to impress

Lord, give me grace and dancing feet
Let me outshine them all

Is it so wrong to crave recognition?

Second best, runner-up

Is it so wrong to want rewarding?

To want more than is given to you?
                          Than is given to you

Tonight make me unstoppable

And I will charm, I will slice, I will dazzle them with my wit

Tonight make me unstoppable

And I will charm, I will slice, I will dazzle, I will outshine them all

Standing on the packed dance floor

Our bodies throb in time

Silent on the weekdays

Tonight I claim what’s mine

Is it so wrong…

Tonight make me unstoppable…

Tonight make me unstoppable…

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke says, "The Prayer" is a true reflection of where I am musically. It was inspired by Timbaland, Aaliyah and Missy Eliott. Apply the rules of contemporary hiphop and  R&B to an indie four-piece and you come up with something totally mental."

Song length 3:45
Formerly called "The Bolero" and "Prayer to the Lord"
First played Live: Bournemouth Old Fire Station 24.01.07
